15 Green

I have had to cancel the 15 green renovation this coming fall, I wasn't able to secure the sod. With all the winter kill this passed season around the Calgary and Edmonton area. all  the Bentgrass sod was all bought up.
But this will allow us to prepare better and have a healthier budget when we do it next fall, we will start to remove trees this fall giving the green more sunlight, to help melt of the snow faster in spring. I will try to get pic of the new green area out to the membership I cant seem ton attach the file to this blog.

Greens

Good Afternoon


I would just like to give a report about the greens and there current state.


Green Speed


1)Yes they are slow the reason for the slowness. Is..... to grow seed you need to keep the seed wet to allow it to germinate. causing the green to be soft and slow
2) To allow the seed to grow faster/better we haven't been lowering the height of cut on them as fast as we usually do
3) we have kept the roller off the greens to allow seed to grow in faster.


WHEN WILL THEY GET FASTER!!!!!!!!


This Week we have lowered the greens to .110" . we only go down to .100" so we are close to as low as we go. we will start rolling greens every day from now on to get the speeds up to a more desirable speed. We will also start watering the seeded areas by hand to minimize the wetness on the good turf areas allowing for better ball roll.


Green conditions


Myself and the crew have spent hours over seeding the greens. we have over seeded 4-5 times on all the dead areas.


We also Verticut greens once a week to help get the air, water & fertilizer in to the seeded areas


We will start Plugging/sodding out the big dead spots on 1,16,14,13, but if the seed looks like its filling in we will leave it to finish growing in.


WHY ARE THEY TAKING SO LONG TO GROWN IN. !!!!!!!


It is very difficult to grow seed in the spring here at Redwood Because of the low temperature drops at night. but I can see its working its just going to take some time. also we haven't been getting the really warm temps like the 25 or above that will really help the seed grow faster, so hopefully we have some warmer days coming


With That said I expect a full recovery from all greens this season with the exception of 15.

Winters Back

Hello Member's well winter came back for the day !!!!!


 I'm just trying out my blog for the first time this season. Sorry its so late I was having technical difficulties.


As for the Golf Course everything is off and running smoothly in the Turf Department Greens are Beautiful :)


just a FYI
 I've scheduled a greens slicing for Thursday June 2nd this is just another type of greens Aeration with little impact to playing conditions.


That is all for now I will try keep you the members updated weekly on stuff going on around the course.

Frost

We arrived at the course this morning with a lil frost layer. 

pls call proshop to see if the frost will effect your tee time

Pull carts

Just a Reminder to all the Members who use pull carts. Pls try and keep pull carts at least 25' feet away from greens and tees pls. Especially in between the green and Bunkers. Like in the picture the heavy traffic from the pull carts makes it difficult for the grass to grow in these areas.

Storm damage

Good morning Members I hope everyone had a good long weekend away from the course. 

Unfortunately we required some hail damage. Over the weekend with the storm that came threw Saturday all greens have minimal damage 10,17,18 got it the worst. Also all the beautiful flowers we damage/destroyed from the hail. 

So Myself and my crew will have to top dress this week to get them smooth and ready for the Sr club championship this weekend coming up. 

So I ask for your patience as we Clean up the mess from the storm.

No carts

Do to the amount of rain over the week. there will be No Carts. Thrusday july14th
